Landon’s Gabba Party Party!

Confession: I love Yo Gabba Gabba(remember?) and I super puffy heart love that Landon likes it too. While starting to come up with a theme for his party, I ran across ideas and thought ” SO EASY”. If there is ever characters that I can recreate at will, it’s Yo Gabba Gabba. So I relied on my good friend Pinterest and found a new friend, gabbafriends.com.

We had the party at Grandmommy and Granddaddy’s house out in the country.  They are a super awesome yard and even redid Kevin’s swingset/tree house for the next generation.  Complete with wicked fast slide and 3!!!! swings!  It was awesome!

Party Party

So true to form, I DIYed the shiz out of this event. Just to name a few:

Photoshop n00b

Custom invitations

I bought some greeting card paper, formatted a Photoshop document, found some clip art, and print.  BOOM. Sadly, no one followed the no gifting note.  Bastards.

I found tons of good ideas at www.gabbafriends.com.  They have free clip art, tutorials and just pure inspiration.  If I was REALLY crafty, I totally would have made these bad boys. I spent way more time than I should laying it out but what else do Type A moms do anyway?

Custom t-shirts for the kids

I highly recommend this.  It was a HUGE hit.  I paid maybe 8 dollars total for 5 t shirts.

Step 1: Buy a pack of toddler undershirts at Target.
Step 2: Print out super simple design from clip art and a matching font (mine was called Munro)
Step 3: Iron

DONE. I even got all the designs on 2 sheets of paper!  So I had leftovers! Landon got his own too!

Felt bunting!

I coveted bunting I saw on Pinterest and decided to make it on my own.  $.30 pieces of felt of each color and some Elmers…BOOM! It is now going to hang in his room. I wish I would have figured out how to do a boombox one.  That would have been swanky.

Felt Board

I came up with the felt board idea when a) I had a ton of extra felt and b) needed to think of a backup activity in case of rain.  add in my desire for personalization and this is what you get: felt gabba friends and all the kids names (in gabba font no less). We fashioned Kevin’s old easel with felt and made a felt board.  I also had extra shapes, letters, characters to place if they wanted. We now can keep it for LT to play with!

Sidebar: I only invited a few close friends we have been around for playdates before.  Known quantity.  I had never hosted many youngins…so I started small.

Rest of the Shiz

  • Drink/napkin buckets with each character – clearance buckets at Michaels, printouts from Nick Jr.com and some glue.  Done.
  • Muno cups! – $1 pack of red cups from dollar store.  1 piece of card stock for eyes.  Done.
  • Favor boxes – I bought DJ Lance boomboxes from Celebrate Express with a sheet of stickers and noise makers.  They were too cheap to make myself. (like a $1 a piece). The kids loved them.Best part there was we used credit card points and it was all free.  No amount of DIYing is gonna compete with that.
  • Cupcake backgrounds – I printed the lands from each gabba land from Nick Jr. and put them for each character.  I had bigger visions but whatever.

I then paid people where I lack skill. I DIYed and bargain shopped just so I could get these bad boys. Created by Amanda at www.bitsybakes.com. She actually works with me at SAS and I have coveted her skill for awhile. I have a whole post about her awesomeness coming so I will save it for there…but her skills are breathtaking and I about peed my pants with excitement when I picked them up. I said “I want yo gabba gabba faces and a muno one for Landon” and BAM. This happened:

BEST CUPCAKES EVER
BEST CUPCAKES EVER

Needless to say, she has my business for life. The kids LOVED them.  I couldn’t have been happier. Just plain sick.

I also paid the lovely folks at Bojangles for biscuits…because I know I can’t beat them. Not even gonna try. We had fruit and mimosas…because what doesn’t say “Toddler birthday party” like booze before noon.

It was a grand ole time and I as sore from smiling. I leave you with a few adorable photos.  Thanks Cara!
