10 Awesome Movie Cameos

This isn’t my usual post but I wanted to do it. I love a nicely placed cameo in a movie (or video or whatever).  I am a sucker for them. You get total brownie points for it in my book. So K and I decided to compile a list of 10 of our favorites. Not saying these are the best but they really made us go YES THIS IS AWESOME. Requirement: we had to have no idea it was coming. No pre-release leaks or listings in the credits. Pure surprise.

#1 Jim Parson’s as the human Walter in The Muppet Movie – We recently have become Big Bang fans. Landon also LOVES the Muppet Movie. When human Walter was Sheldon, we couldn’t agree more. The most muppet man ever.

#2 Matt Damon as Danny in Eurotrip – We rented Eurotrip in college. I am sure it was because Kevin and his roommates wanted to see boobs (ahem). We had no clue who the main people were (well except for All That Girl). When Matt Damon popped up all pierced and making out with Lana Lang (we were Smallville nerds too), we were surprised. Still one of the best ones.

#3 Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder – Such a huge actor NOT in the previews or touted in the cast before. This was classic recipe for a great cameo. On top of that, he was HILARIOUS. His cursing made my fucking day. Also the Ludacris dance was just perfect.

#4 Bill Murray in Zombieland – No one had spilled the beans by the time I saw the movie so it was perfect. Seeing Woody Harrelson loving on Bill Murray was awesome.

#5 NPH in Harold and Kumar

#6 David Bowie in Zoolander – Fact: I LOVE David Bowie. He is on my old guy hot list for forever. While Zoolander was full of cameos, this was my favorite. Droooooolllll

#7 Christopher Walken in Pulp Fiction – I mean Christopher Walken is pure gold in any role and awkwardly hilarious monologues just make it better.

#8 Bob Barker in Happy Gilmore – Old guys cursing…awesome!

#9 Alice Cooper in Wayne’s World – I always worry that Wayne’s World is going to be forgotten. I have seen those movies so many times. I still use catch phrases in every day life. I love it. This scene is great just for the content of Alice’s speech. Perfect.

#10 Tim Robbins, Ben Stiller and Luke Wilson in Anchorman – When the news channels come to rumble West Side Story style, the addition of these guys was great. I think Ben Stiller from the spanish news channel was my favorite.  COMO ESTAN, BITCHES.

So what are your favorite cameos?

Great list. One you missed was Brett Favre in There’s Something About Mary. The Favre has become tarnished after his retire-not retire-retire-not retire-suck routine, but at the time this was a brilliant surprise.

Of course, I’m actually a Steelers fan, so I’m looking forward to Hines Ward in The Dark Knight Rises (although it clearly won’t be a surprise).

A movie that may not count because of the sheer number of cameos is The Player. So many great ones, particularly at the end.

    NO NO NO.
NPH should be #1. That completely relaunched his career and gave him his epic role on HIMYM. (Side nomination: Doogie Howser cameo in HIMYM.)

And no Mike Tyson in Hangover???
Reggie Jackson in Naked Gun! Which I saw in the theater because I am OLD.

Sorry I didn’t mean to put numbers. They aren’t in any order. Just getting them down. And we had Mike on the Hangover but there wasn’t the surprise on that one. He was in the previews.

I saw Naked Gun so long ago I don’t remember it.

You know which one I love? Lance Armstrong in Dodgeball, I laugh hysterically every time he gives his pep talk to Peter!
