Toddler Dinners: How to Trick them with Medicine

DeclanLet’s be honest, Toddler Dinners is over a year old now. I am running out of ideas to help you. I know there are more issues to touch on but I have no advice on matters I don’t encounter. Soooo I used the power of social media. Today’s issue comes from Sarah. Sarah works with me, her son is at daycare(that is Declan to the right there) with Landon and her new daughter is at daycare with Oliver. Also fun fact: Sarah and I look similar. So much so that Declan would calm down as an infant when I came into the room. Landon also would mistake her for me in pictures!

How do you get a toddler to take yucky tasting medicine?

Bribes? The ole switcharoo? Pill pockets (hey…works for dogs)? Bake it in a cake like a file in prison? I have no clue! We have only had amoxicillin and some Tylenol. So, first, I asked my pediatrician and her was her advice:

“Take the syringe and suck up equal parts chocolate syrup first and then the meds. Basically a sugar chaser.”

Seemed like a good option but I knew you awesome moms and dads out there would have some other experience under your belt…and boy did you.

Here is what you guys gave me:

Then Kristina sent me this. A sippy cup setup to administer the dtugs without them knowing! GENIUS…though my luck, it would spill out. So apparently the trend is the ole bait and switch.

Well I hope this helps someone out there. Thanks to all the folks out there for the replies. I am a little bit smarter now at tricking my kid. Happy kid doping!!

Here’s our big problem with medicine: It all tastes good! We haven’t had a bad tasting medicine yet. So instead of having kids who don’t like medicine, I gave birth to medicine addicts. “I NEED medicine!” “I’m sick. I should have some medicine.”

Yes! Landon always wants medicine after a stint with a cold. Ugh. See why I had to ask!
