Ollie’s Color Explosion Party

Imma admit it. I totally second childed this party. I tried to do a similar thing as I did for Landon but since many people couldn’t come, it got scaled back (which was super easy going).

I decided long ago I would do the “rainbow” theme because it was easy and reusable. Buy everything in plain colors that can be reallocated to future parties. Banner, plates, cups, etc. Food is easy. Cake/cupcakes are easy. Just put colors on them. But I realized there were no actual rainbows…just ALL THE COLORS! So I rolled with it. It worked out well because a lot of family couldn’t make it and so it was going to be a smaller event than Landon‘s was.

Kevin took on the baking and made Ollie a small smash cake and then a dozen cupcakes. Just enough to not have leftovers! We went Funfetti because why the hell not. I used the different colored cupcake concept to get Landon to help me. He helped stir all the icing colors and enjoyed some spoon licking. He specified purple because TWILIGHT SPARKLE MOMMY. For Ollie’s cake I just frosted with vanilla icing and dumbed all the sprinkles on it. I kinda really love it. Perfectly simple.

The only other thing I did was dip pretzel rods I had in the cabinet in chocolate and add sprinkles. Other snacks were just stuff we had in the cupboard and threw on the table. I got a kick ass sangria recipe and figured we could just all get buzzed…then I tripled the rum and we were all pretty gone. YAY GROUP PARENTING.

Ollie enjoyed his cake but wasn’t as crazy as Landon was. It took him a while to catch on. Daddy had to help out. Brother enjoyed his purple cupcake and helping little bro smash the cake. He really is a phenomenal big brother and always thinking of ways to make Ollie laugh and happy.

We cleaned off by letting the dogs eat the crumbs and we all went swimming in the river. It was a perfect day all around. We went skiing, Landon jumped off the pier until he was blue in the face and we just casually had a great time. Many thanks to my inlaws for the gift of the River and all the help. It is great to have a place we can just throw together a party and have so much fun and no headache. I am truly blessed.

Happy 1st birthday Ollie. I’m all about simple prep / reusable decor for parties. Nobody walks away talking about the décor, just the fun!

A wonderful party! The smash cake looks awesome. I did chuckle when I saw glimpses on IG – I think I had D’s 4th party on the same day and while technically our theme was based on Skippyjon, I also went with a rainbow of colors. So fun & easy. Why settle when you can have them all? Great minds. 🙂
