Dolphin’s Nursery Plan

Welp. They house didn’t sell. We took it off the market at the end of April to start nesting for Dolphin. We have much to do. Create a nursery, transition Landon to a big boy bed and find homes for all the rest of our stuff. Oy.

Bright side here, I haven’t been able to plan. You know what that does to me? Makes me twitchy. By this time in my pregnancy with Landon, I was almost done with the nursery. So yeah…I have been itching to get this done. So starting the weekend before it went off, I rekindled my love with Pinterest. Fortunately we had a 3.5 hour nap one day and I spent it on the iPad planning. It was so therapeutic. While sad our house didn’t sell, I had to find the silver lining. Getting creative is that.

So here is the starting point:

Dolphin's Room Before

The plan for Dolphin’s room is rockets and robots. We got Dwell Studio for Target for Landon’s set and loved it so I wanted it again. Luckily they had the same pieces on sale and so BAM. We went with the Space pattern with little mod rockets and stripes. I just love it. I plan to keep the green on the walls for ease. It doesn’t clash with the green rockets and will work well with the furniture. My ideal would be gray but nothing else would work. Womp.

The rocket pattern is a well loved one over the interwebs so I haven’t had trouble finding inspiration. I found this bad boy and she even lives in Raleigh! This is the same set. I hope to use the idea of the space mobile and the gallery wall as my art project.

We also plan to not use the crib bumper again. We have a breathable brown one we felt safer with Landon that we will use again. I am then going to take the bumpers and make window treatments. For Landon’s bumpers, we did cornice boards above the windows.

Cornice Boards Crib Bumper

It was super simple.  We may do that again or may just do a simple valance with it. Problem is the windows in Dolphin’s room are flush against the wall. Time to put our engineer degrees to work on this one. I also got another set of brown black out curtains like Landon’s for under the cornice/valance for making good little vampire babies.

I also put the word out on twitter and the lovely Jessica said she had an extra pillow case from the toddler bedding set and was happy for me to have. HOORAY! Between that and the leftovers from the bumper, we can make new odds and ends. One being a lamp covering like this one:

Aunt Sarah is going to make some pillows for the little guy and hopefully we can construct a changing pad cover. Then I imagine I could frame some just like in the nursery above to add back to the room.

For art, I am eyeballing my friends over at Modern Bird Studios with their line Mod Tots for their robot prints. I think they would be adorable in the space and I just love Gregg and Megan :). Imma sap.

All of Landon’s furniture will move to the new room. Glider, changing table, bookshelf and that means crib…which means I am sad. He LOVES his crib. Barely ever stands in it. Asks to get in. I am just so dreading this transition to a toddler bed. Fortunately, Laura has given us her toddler bed so we can make a smaller transition than to a true twin bed just yet. Maybe that could be for the new house one day. So the next post will be about the big boy room transformation..complete with teary eyed memories of my baby. Hold me, internets.

It’s going to be adorable! I envy crafty people. Sort of. I don’t necessarily want to be able to do it, but I admire those who do and have the eye for it!

Is it worth trying to borrow a crib for a while, instead of a toddler bed? If you think it will be a hard transition, maybe that’s one fewer stressor to throw on y’all as the new baby comes. (Or maybe I just personally am really dreading the transition from the crib, LOL)

Well toddler bed is already in the house. I think it will work out. I mean he has slept on the floor at school since before he was 1.

Have you been to the Babies R Us on Capitol Blvd yet? It’s closing at the end of the month (moving to Triangle Town Center) and everying is 40, 50, 60% off. There’s not a ton left, but I did see a robot/rocket ship decor item when I went at lunch today. It’s definitely worth the trip – if you have time to do some digging you can score some great deals.
