The Cool Jams Right Now
OK internets, I need some help. I need some new music. I find myself coming to work each day and playing the same albums over and over. I can’t think outside the box. But seeing as just this would just be tweet worthy and not cause for a whole post, I thought I would share those albums that I am listening to constantly.
Top 5 Albums in Mannly Mama world (all links go to Spotify for instant listening):
Artist: Miike Snow (yes there are 2 ‘i’s…that is important when searching)
Genre: Electronic pop Album: Happy To You Favorite Song: Bavarian #1 (Say You Will) I loved Miike Snow’s first album too so usually I just have it on shuffle for both albums but this one has a little different sound. I found it really nice to work to. It isn’t distracting and is still upbeat and fun. |

Artist: Fun.
Genre: Vintage pop Album: Some Nights Favorite Song: Some Nights So many of you may have heard this on the radio…but I NEVER listen to the radio. No lie. I have had my car over a year and still haven’t programmed the radio because I never use it. I found this group via the top lists on Spotify. Great album. Reminds me of Queen sometimes. Sometimes Mika. Sometimes Kanye (he helped produced this). It is a fun mix of sounds. Also the harmony in Some Nights makes me relive my chorus days I sing the alto part for fun. |

Artist: Deadmau5
Genre: Dance/Techno/Electronic/House Album: 4×4=12 Favorite Song: Raise Your Weapon (note there is a whole remix album of this track….awesome) Mindless house music is great to code to. It is upbeat enough to not put me to sleep and mellow enough I don’t have to pay attention. Granted this CD isn’t as much house a lot of his other stuff but it does the job. Sophia Needs A Ladder is pretty bad ass actually. It is a go to running song often. So I guess you can say this is the morn “mainstream” of their stuff. The album “For Lack of a Better Name” has some you probably have heard. |

Artist: Alex Clare
Genre: Drum and Bass/Rock/Electronic Album: The Lateness of the Hour Favorite Song: Up All Night You should recognize Alex’s work due to the IE9 commerical. His track “Too Close” actually made you want to use IE….bwhahahahahaha. Hat’s off to Microsoft for introducing me to him. Great stuff. The whole album jumps around in sounds. Up All Night is a fun track to get you pumped but then I Love You is simple and sweet. |

Artist: The Glitch Mob
Genre: Drum and Bass/Electronic Album: Drink The Sea (or any of the follow up remix albums) Favorite Song: Between Two Points Ever seen a preview for a super hero movie? You have probably heard The Glitch Mob. The new Spiderman, Captain America, and even in several CSI episodes(btw the music people for CBS actually rock…hats off) . They even have a remix of Seven Nation Army for the new GI Joe preview that pretty much melted my face in the theater. I would say 80% of the album has no words. Between Two Points has hauntingly good vocals by Swan. The remixes of that track are phenomenal too. I was introduced to them from the Tron: Reconfigured soundtrack which has to be one of my all time favorite albums. Their remix of Derezzed has to be one of the most played songs in my library. |
So what have you been listening to? I need some new jams, yo.
My husband is a developer and listens to the following while he codes – and has gotten me into this as well: Ta-ku, DJ Shadow, Stephane Pompougnac, Mark Farina, anything Mushroom Jazz, Madcon, Pete Rock, RJD2, DJ Krush….. We have a ton on Spotify!
AWESOME! THANK YOU!
The Features “How It Starts”, Norma Jean, Nero, The Naked and Famous, The Haunted and then the good old favorites: TOOL and NIN. However, I am noticing my tastes are shifting to stuff that isn’t so…metal.
My Spotify favorites at work right now are:
1. Downright Awesome Singers – Jay Nash (Great singer super nice guy. Has a hint of a country thing going in some of his stuff but I dig it even though I’m from NYC); Matthew Perryman Jones (plays a lot of music that sounds like background music on Grey’s Anatomy but awesome; Ben Harper; Death Cab for Cutie
2. Jam Bands – Citizen Cope, Gov’t Mule/Warren Haynes (Dave Matthews is my favorite but listening to DMB makes me think of all the shows I’ve been to and drinking with my friends)
3. Old School – Simon & Garfunkel (Again, I’m from NYC); Lionel Ritchie; Phil Collins
WOW! Love your album choices! I’m a fan of ALL of them now. And sorry, clearly I’ve been under a rock w/ cotton in my ears.. I have NO suggestions for songs. And I just realized how lame that is – ugh!
Thanks! Happy to help 🙂
