My Child the Chatterbox
As I have stated before, my child is no stranger to technology. I mean, cmon. This can’t be shocker. He is also a talker. I mean non-stop, making no sense, talker. He reenacts books and tv shows. He makes character voices. He even makes puppets with his socks and gives them funny voices. The kid isn’t lacking imagination.
With all the talking though, we can understand about 85% of it. A good bit of time is turned into “mumble mumble Thomas! Mumble OH NO THE BEES!” and we just sit there in awe. And don’t get my started on the repeating. Oy.
Well this weekend he asked for the iPad. He picked Talking Larry The Bird. Basic concept, the bird repeats you in a high pitched voice. He also has buttons to make him sing, move and even get struck my lightning (WTF right?). Usually this app is kinda short lived before he moves back to Toca Boca or watching a video but today he lingered. He found a friend in Larry. He began telling Larry about his toys and even reading him a book. Larry only picks up the words he was saying pretty loudly so it wasn’t everything. Here was a sample conversation with Larry the Bird that had Kevin and I in tears trying not to laugh:
Landon: “Hey bird, I’m gonna read you this Thomas book!”
Larry: “Thomas book!”
Landon: “Yeah. Ok. Here is Thomas and here is Percy!”
Larry: “Percy”
Landon: “Yeah! And then mumble mumble mumble Sir Topham Hatt and …”
Larry (“interrupting”): “Sir Topham Hatt”
Landon: ” No bird. Stop. You listen!”
Larry: “Listen!”
O Larry, welcome to our world. We get no respect.
I tried to capture some of him reading to Larry on my phone. Enjoy.
Gotta love this phase. I was planning on writing about Isaac’s verbal skills as well. It’s incredible how fast they learn.
And the parroting phase is a scary phase. Talk about watching what you (and people around you!) say.
It’s a little scary sometimes.
My daughter plays with a bunch of the “talking animals” apps. My favorite is when she asks a question, then gets frustrated because the animal repeats, but doesn’t answer, the question. She just starts saying it louder and louder until she moves on to something else.
Hehehe. They are so funny.
Jeez, I need this app for Sebastian. He talks non-stop, and some days it just drives me effing crazy.
I love how he’s all “Right.”
My kids quickly grew tired of these apps, dangit. We still have the Gina the Giraffe one but I think I need to delete it since I constantly see Maë hitting her so her head swings back & forth. Umm…
Very cute-my LO is enjoying watching videos of Landon! We have Tocca Bocca too and already at almost a year she likes it, but loves Talking Carl-much like Larry.
