The Big Boy Bed

When we knew we were going to be moving, we decided our first real furniture purchase was going to be a new bed for Landon. He was still rocking the sweet toddler bed we got from Laura. We knew it would be a great way to get him settled into the new digs. So right before Christmas, my mother in law and I made our maiden voyage to IKEA. It was everything I dreamed. I was pretty stoked to get out for under 2 grand. We got new shelves for the playroom (EXPEDIT, BITCHES) and the glorious KURA reversible bunk bed for Landon.

We are leaving it with the bed on the bottom for now. I think he would be fine on top but since this was his first bed since the toddler bed, we decided on the bottom. The great thing about the KURA is how low it is. For perspective, I could kiss him goodnight in the bunk once flipped and I am 5′ 2″ (on a good day). Grandma got him the canopy to go with it for $30 from IKEA as well. There is so many things you can do with this bed. Just google “ikea hack KURA” and you will see amazing things like this:

So needless to say, we aren’t done. I can imagine getting really fun with this. For now we just got him a new comforter and some sweet after Christmas LED lights. I have to admit it feels so cozy in there with just the lights on in the canopy.

We did go with the IKEA SULTAN FLORVÅG mattress. It seems small in the packaging but it puffs up and is great for the bed. It is also good to have once we flip and we can put that pad on the floor before to have a rest area or potential Ollie crash area.

The comforter was also IKEA NATURSKÖN. I liked just having all the colors and a bunch of random animals. Notice the monkey floor pillow there. We have an elephant too. I went with the theme. Also at $20? WHO THE HELL CARES?!

We still will flesh out his room more but so far so good. I can’t wait to flip it and make a fun play area under there. He has really enjoyed having his friends over to play up there at the Lego table and even monsters with Harry. Loving these house memories already 🙂

I love this bed! It looks so simple and basic in the catalog but I love seeing what other people do with it. We’re no where near moving our kiddo to a bed yet but we’re definitely going to look at these when we take the looooong drive to Ikea this weekend!

We got that same bed, and sometime in the future when we are confident that he won’t kill himself from the top bunk, we will flip it over and his mind will be blown. Ikea rocks!
