Ever want to program your social media/technology world to work together to save you a step or two? Say you want an email every time someone tweets about kitten videos. Or how about when you upload a youtube video you want it to email your grandmother? Well my friends…there’s an app for that.
Enter “If this, then that” or ifttt.com
A glorious bunch of code to make this all possible. They have 58 “channels” to connect. A channel could be Facebook, Dropbox, Evernote, Twitter…the list goes on and on. They interact with the APIs (nerd speak) so you don’t have to. You sign up for an account and start making “recipes” or just use other people’s. I don’t have a lot to say about this app that it can’t do for itself….so here are some recipes your might find handy:
If I update my Facebook profile photo, update my Twitter photo
If it’s gonna rain tomorrow, send me a text.
If I star something in Google Reader, save it to Evernote.
If I text this number, it will call me with an automated message to escape 🙂
So lately the interwebz has been all abuzz about the new change to Instagram that won’t post the photos in your twitter timeline…well? RECIPE THAT SHIT and damn the man!!!!
The combinations are really endless. You can use it to be sneaky, smart, backup stuff, blog stuff, reminder your self…just think “if this, then that!”.
What recipes are you thinking about making?
