Toddler Dinners: Fast Food Favorites

Fast food. I would like to be a mom who says “my kid will never eat fast food” but let’s face it. We work full time and try to maximize weekend fun. Meals aren’t my priority when he is having so much fun on the slide or in the sand. Sue me. Also my fetus NEEDS Chick Fila. That being said, we don’t go all the time and when we do, I try to get something with some nutritional value. Same goes for adults, you can balance out your sins.  If I go for the fried chicken sandwich, I get a side salad instead of fries. If I want fries, I go for the grilled chicken. Checks and balances where I can. So I try to balance for Landon too.  Most of the time we try to just get the protein from the store and supplement with stuff from my stash. All the more reason a good stash is an excellent investment!

Here are some great choices I have found:

  • Grilled nuggets and fruit at Chick Fila
  • Grilled chicken salad at Bojangles (we share)
  • Fruit, walnut and yogurt sampler from McDonalds
  • Grilled chicken sandwiches from anywhere. Just cut up the breast.
  • Whole wheat PB&J with fruit and Organic Milk from Panera Bread
  • Egg and cheese wake up wrap from Dunkin Donuts
  • Spaghetti and meatballs from Noodles and Company with side salad. Boy LOVES meatballs. Also I can save the leftovers for like 3 more meals. SCORE!

So what are some of your favorite toddler friendly fast food menu items?

I always feel pretty good about Chick Fila. We get the fruit bowl for Archer and share a yogurt parfait. He will have nuggets or cut up breast. For fast food, it ain’t bad.

At McDonalds, we love the fruit and walnut sampler thing, too. And, again, the little yogurt parfait.

I always stash some of whatever protein we have and get a meal or two out of it!

I spaces our favorite fast food! Qdoba! Naked burrito bowl with chicken or steak. Archer and I could share an adult sized one, but I like SPICY.

So, we get him the kid’s naked chicken burrito with black beans, rice, and corn salsa.. It comes with sugar free apple sauce. We easily get 2 meals out of it.

    Okay. Last comment. I promise.

The other thing I love about Qdoba is online ordering. I can place an order and have the husband pick it up on his way home. It’s an awesome time saver when things get crazy.

90% of the time if we’re taking Madison to fast food we go to chick fil a. We get her a 4 piece nuggets, the fruit and let her have a couple of our fries.

It honestly is rare that we go out to a restaurant these days but if we do we usually get her chicken fingers, grilled cheese, quesadilla or pb&j if we’re getting her a kids meal.

She honestly loves so many different foods (if she’s in a cooperative mood) that we’ll just give her stuff off our plate (meatballs & pasta from italian, pieces of salmon, grilled chicken or veggies, a few rogue fries, hummus & pita bread, etc.)

& I never stress if it’s an unhealthy meal. We all have unhealthy meals and I ALWAYS provide her with healthy options at home so if we’re going to have a pizza or chick fil a night… we go really go for it :).

We are defintely a fan of CFA, and as of right now, that’s the only fast food we’ve given O (12 months). He loves the grilled nuggets and fruit cup, and I try to bring a veggie from home.

I don’t really consider Panera or Noodles fast food. We eat those a lot! The only has-a-drive-thru fast food that Harry has had is Taco Bell. Pintos and cheese and the inside of a grilled chicken taco. Oh how I WISH we had CFA here. I miss it a lot.
